Unbeknownst to most collectors, cards from the groundbreaking 1998 Playoff Contenders issue can occasionally be found with gold foil serial numbers on back. As a promotion to its growing customer base in 1998, the innovators at Playoff challenged collectors to complete full sets of each of the three different Contenders checklists: Leather, Pennant, and Ticket. Collectors could then submit their complete sets to Playoff for a redemption prize as well as a special treatment to their cards. Each "Registered Exchange" card would be stamped on back in gold foil with the number in which its set was received back by Playoff.

Until this auction, in over 20 years of grading the massively popular 1998 Playoff Contenders cards, PSA had processed only a small handful of the elusive and mysterious "Registered Exchange" cards from each of the three different 1998 Playoff Contenders sets. With provenance that includes our consignors' original communications with Playoff Corporation, Small Traditions, LLC is very proud to bring to market full assemblies of each of the three different sets: Leather, Pennant, and Ticket.

Offered here is a complete 100-card assembly of the 1998 Playoff Contenders Pennant Registered Exchange set. Each card has been serial-numbered "No.14" in gold foil on back, and twelve of the set's key cards have been graded by PSA, as follows:

PSA 9 Mint (1 card): #83 Jerry Rice.

PSA 8 NM-MT (8 cards): #23 Emmitt Smith, #26 John Elway, #35 Barry Sanders, #42 Peyton Manning, #55 Randy Moss, #71 Charles Woods, #77 Hines Ward, and #87 Ahman Green.

PSA 7 NM (2 cards): #37 Brett Favre, #51 Dan Marino.

PSA 6 EX-MT (1 cards): #46 Fred Taylor.
