Few cards from outside the traditional four-sport realm of baseball, basketball, football, and hockey can be considered more iconic than the 1937 Ogden's Ltd. Champions of 1936 Jesse Owens card #3. Issued by one of Great Britain's most famous and enduring tobacco companies, this colorful card is reminiscent of American Tobacco's baseball issues of two decades earlier, and it features one of the most celebrated and accomplished athletes in world history. Owens made his first mark on the world when he set three world records and tied a fourth, all within the span of an hour at the 1935 Big Ten track meet in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The following year, he crushed to dust Adolf Hitler's theory of Aryan supremacy when he won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, annihilating the competition in the 100m, 200m, long jump, and 4 x 100m relay. The offered tobacco card memorializes that historic and culturally significant achievement. The lone PSA 10 graded example above it recently fetched nearly $5,000 in a Heritage auction, and only two other PSA 9 copies have rivaled it. Add some diversity and royalty to your collection with a winning bid on this iconic card today.
