While Edson Arrantes do Nascimento's 1958 Alifabolaget rookie card has received the lion's share of attention in recent years, it's the 1958-59 Tupinamba Ltda. Colecao Quigol card that may eventually prove to be the most valuable. Population reports already prove that it's just as scarce as the Alifa card, but it appears to be signciantly tougher to find in relatively presentable condition. The Quigol card reports just three copies in the NM-MT 8 grade at the top of the pop, followed by two copies graded NM 7 from a total of 46 submissions. The Alifa card, on the other hand, reports five Mint 9 copies at the top of the pop, followed by four graded NM-MT+ 8.5 and other four graded NM-MT 8 from a comparable submission pool of just 48 total on record.

The offered Quigal copy may not be one of the highest-graded specimens in the hobby, but it nevertheless features attributes that distinguish it from most copies we've seen. The offered card is fairly accurately centered and boasts a clean stock entirely devoid of any print imperfections, wrinkles, paper loss, or other problems that appear common to the issue. Its only discernible drawback appears to be its uniform VG to VG-EX corner wear. Indeed, on a better day in the grading room, this copy could easily have graded VG-EX 4 or better.

Unlike the aforementioned Alifa card, the Quigol card hails from Pele's home country of Brazil, which likely explains its condition challenges but also ads another layer of desirability over the Alifa card. Whether you are new to the hobby sensation of Pele rookie cards or have been enjoying their underappreciated scarcity for decades, the offered PSA 3 VG graded Quigol will make a fine addition to any collection.
