Among the scarcest of MJ's relatively few 1986 rookie card issues is the 1986 Merchante Sticker, issued in Spain, where the sport of basketball experienced a boom -- or, "un auge" as a Spaniard would say -- in popularity in the 1970s and especially the 80s. To date, PSA has graded just 15 total examples of this rare sticker, two of which we're proud to offer in this premium lot. Not only rare, like Mike's unprecedented air, but also extremely condition sensitive -- the highest graded is a single PSA 8 NM-MT, followed by a few PSA 7 NMs, a single PSA 6 EX-MT, and a single PSA 5 EX -- most examples known to exist show significant back damage after being used as intended, as stickers stuck into and then removed from a collector's book. As evidenced in our high resolution scans, both examples offered in this lot show back damage, and so we asked PSA to slab them as authentic only rather than with a low numerical grade, as they would like rate in the 1 Poor to 3 Very Good range. Keep them both as investments, or chose your favorite and sell the other to recoup part of your expense, or try them again at PSA (or BGS or SGC) but with a numerical grade; the choice is all yours. Whatever you do, opportunities like this are as rare as the Merchante Jordan Rookie Sticker itself, so don't pass on this one. Instead, get strong, go big, take your best shot, and score!
