An extraordinary complement to the current auction's preceding lot, offered here is the following year's Upper Deck MVP Derek Jeter Super Script parallel, likewise graded PSA 10 Gem Mint and ranking as the only Derek Jeter example to ever earn PSA's top designation, a powerhouse Pop 1 PSA 10 that will sparkle in even the most advanced collections. Similar to the previous year's issue, only a small handful of other players from the 220-card checklist have ever yielded Super Script parallels in the PSA 10 Gem Mint grade, including Ramon Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Nomar Garciaparra, and Mark McGwire. That's it! When you consider the dozens of megastars counted in the checklist, this is meaningful. There has never been a Ken Griffey, Jr. Super Script PSA 10, even though he appears in the set twice, nor has there been a single Cal Ripken, Jr., no Chipper, no Bonds, no ARod, no Rickey, no Pedro, no Big Hurt, JuanGone, Mo, Unit, Rocket, Sosa, Maddux... you get the idea.

This is one of those early Derek Jeter inserts that is virtually impossible to find in any condition, which makes this unique (Pop 1) PSA 10 offering all the more special. In the world of sports super-duper-stardom, Jeter may never merit the same following as Michael Jordan, whose inserts from similar sets often surpass $10,000 at auction, but he'll always follow closely behind. The question isn't really one of merit, anyways. It's more an issue of who is collecting at any given time. Right now, it's a good time to scoop up the rarest Jeters, as several of the most prominent Jeter collectors have recently retired from the hobby. Who will take their place and what they'll do to the market remains to be seen, but given Jeter's championship achievements and his immortality in both The Bronx and in Cooperstown, we believe anything is possible, even comparisons to Michael Jordan.
