Pop quiz: Which player has the largest set on the PSA Registry? If you guessed Yankees legend Derek Jeter, give yourself a pat on the back. With an incredible 7,305 cards needed to complete this daunting quest, Jeter's PSA Master Set is not a collecting endeavor for the faint-hearted. And yet, 100 collectors have taken up the challenge, a number which includes four hobbyists who have completed more than one-third of this imposing set. Incredible!

Jeter, of course, is not only popular with folks who enjoy hunting down his PSA slabs, but with the broader public as well. He is one of those figures who has transcended sports into popular culture. "He is good looking, single and plays shortstop for the Bronx Bombers— a trifecta that begs for bright lights and gossip column space," said sportswriter Dan O'Neill. Though no longer in the limelight of the New York tabloids (and now happily married), Jeter's superstar halo remains untarnished, as his fan base can be counted into the millions. So when a rare piece of cardboard from the Yankee Captain hits the market, it attracts eyeballs not just from hardcore hobbyists, but casual collectors as well.

Offered here is one such rare piece, a 1999 Topps Stars Galaxy Foil parallel card. Embossed on the reverse with serial number 16/30, it was produced at a time when cards numbered to 1,000 were considered scarce and finding a specific card numbered to under 100 copies was like locating the proverbial needle in the haystack. A very attractive Jeter parallel with 1993 SP-like silver foil on the front—which differentiates it from the base insert—this card does not have the pedigree of, say, the 1996 or 1997 Certified Mirror Golds, but it certainly has the rarity of those iconic gold cards. Graded Mint 9 by PSA, it is the one-and-only example to secure a mint or better mark. If you are looking for PSA Registry firepower to blast away the competition (and make them jealous in the process), look no further than this lot. We can promise that you won't find a more desirable Jeter card anywhere in this part of the galaxy.
