Skeptics of Derek Sanderson Jeter's place in baseball history often overlook "The Kalamazoo Kid's" pre-professional baseball accomplishments. In his sophomore year at Kalamazoo Central High, he batted .557, followed by .508 his junior year and then .508 again as a senior, striking out only once. Already a star, he received All-State honorable mention and a heap of impressive national awards, including the 1992 High School Player of the Year Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association, the 1992 Gatorade High School Player of the Year award, and USA Today's High School Player of the Year. A Yankee fan by right of birth, and with Dave Winfield as his childhood idol and an admirable work ethic instilled by his parents and high school teachers, he was well on his way to eventually becoming the 11th New York Yankee Captain and one of the most prolific batsmen in the history of baseball.

Offered here is 12-card investment lot of one of the most colorful and coveted cards relating to Jeter's high school days, the 1992 Little Sun High School Prospects card #2. With only 3,000 copies produced, the card also ranks as one of the most short-printed of all Derek's cards produced during his traditional rookie card years of 1992 and 1993. The nearest comparison we can make is to the 1993 Topps Colorado Rockies Inaugural issue, which rumor has it was limited to 5,000 or 6,000 examples after a sizeable portion of the 10,000 sets produced for the Rockies were destroyed in a flood. PSA 8 Topps Rockies Jeter rookie cards have been selling in excess of $200 lately, while PSA 8 Little Suns fetch between $100 and $150. The Little Sun is twice as scarce yet sells for almost half as much. What that means to us is opportunity. With Jeter's Hall of Fame vote right around the corner, we think it's a very safe bet to call the 1992 Little Sun extremely undervalued.
