"The Scooter," Phil Rizzuto, appears on this nearly perfect 1950 Bowman baseball card, graded PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ and ranking among the top dozen copies on record at PSA. Strong Mint to Gem Mint edges meet at NM-MT to Mint corners around a dazzling Mint image of the Yankee legend in outstretched, Ty Cobb-like, mid-air fielding form. Rizzuto might not have been the most individually accomplished player in the New York Yankees dynasty years of the late 1940s and 1950s, but he won the league MVP in the year of this card's issue (1950) and captured seven World Series championships with his famous teammates. After retiring, he spent much of the rest of his life, over 40 years, as a radio and television announcer for the Yankees. His trademark call of "Holy Cow" was just the tip of his idiosyncratic and unpredictable, improvisational style of announcing, which endeared him to multiple generations of Yankee fans around the world. Elected to Cooperstown by the Veterans Committee in 1994, he remains one of the most beloved Yankees of all-time.
