Widely regarded as the greatest active soccer player on the planet and arguably of all-time, 32-year old Lionel Messi is that rare once-in-a-lifetime talent who has achieved international super-stardom all while maintaining--unlike others in his class like Ronaldo and Maradona--his loyalty to club and country, his inspirational leadership, and his humility and jovial good nature. Coaches and retired players around the globe agree that his talent is unlike any other, and they warn fans to pay close attention now, for like Michael Jordan we will sorely miss him when he's gone. Holder are far too many records and trophies to list here, it's exciting to imagine what else he might accomplish before reaching Ronaldo's age (34) and just how long he might be able to continue adding to the record books.

One of the defining characteristics of Messi's style of play is that, like a well-programmed machine, he conserves energy for when he needs it most. He stalks the pitch, often at a leisurely walking pace, studying the competition, the gaps, the angles, the possibilities, and he conserves his energy for great bursts of activity that often result in assists and goals. While he certainly hasn't invented anything new, per say, his creative style of play has been likened to that of actual art, and his reliance on efficiency and real time analysis will be studied by players until the end of time. Hopefully, for our sakes as fans, Messi will be able to extend his efficient style of play to his larger career and give us several more years of artistry and awe.

While Messi's most iconic rookie card is the 2004-05 Panina Mega Cracks card #71, valued nearly $20,000 in PSA 10 condition, it is another 2004-05 Panini Mega Cracks issue that has captured the hobby most recently, namely the 2004-05 Barca Champions issue. Issued to commemorate Barca's 2004-05 La Liga and Supercopa Espana championships, Messi can be found on three different cards within the set, one showing a portrait of the 17-year old Argentinian, another showing an action image, and the third showing a facsimile signature. Naturally, collectors have gravitated to the portrait as the most popular of the three, with recent PSA 10 sales on eBay far surpassing the $1,000 mark. However, all three cards can be found in both Spanish language and Catalonian versions, with the Catalonian cards far outranking the Spanish in terms of both scarcity and condition sensitivity.

Proudly offered here is the first PSA 10 graded Catalonian 2004-05 Panini Mega Cracks Barca Campio #35 Messi portrait rookie card we've been able to track on eBay or elsewhere on the internet. The card is one of just eight copies to have attained PSA's highest grade, compared to 20 PSA 10 copies on record of the Spanish version and another 20 PSA 10 copies of the $20,000 regular Mega Cracks issue from 2004-05. If you're looking for a considerable investment in the game's greatest player but you are unable or unwilling to pay the price of a new car, then look no further. Highly undervalued and very strongly recommended.
