At present, gold is trading at $1,211.26 per ounce, while the same amount of silver is valued at $15.31. How then can you possibly say that silver is better than gold? If you are talking 1996 Studio baseball cards, this is a factual statement. Studio, an imprint of Pinnacle Brands, Inc., created a three-tier Press Proof parallel to its '96 base set: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Interestingly, although the set was not serial numbered, Pinnacle announced that there were 2,000 Bronze, 500 Gold, and just 100 Silver Press Proofs printed. Savvy 1990s collectors know the Silver Press Proof cards—found exclusively in magazine packs—are much more valuable than their golden counterparts.

The most desirable of the 150 cards in the '96 Studio set belongs to New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. It is fair to say that his 1996 Studio Press Proof card, offered here in gorgeous PSA 10 Gem Mint condition, is one of the single toughest cards to locate from the Yankee Captain's corpus of rookie cards, a period which spans from 1992-96. We checked our records, and in the six years we've been running auctions off this site, this is the very first example of Jeet's Silver Press Proof we've ever sold, in any grade. And we've sold a lot of Jeter! A card eagerly sought out by legions of DJ fans as if it was truly made of precious metal, this card, with a PSA 10 population of just five, will be one of the ones to hold in your collection for as long as possible, even and especially if that means handing it down to your children or grandchildren.
