It's difficult to depict online just how beautiful this Derek Jeter 1996 Finest Phenoms Refractor rookie card is in person, but once you hold it in your hands and admire its prismatic Refractor finish, you will understand why several of the PSA 10 examples that have sold in the past several years have commanded such hefty price tags well in excess of four figures. A perfectly centered Gem without its plastic peel, only a dozen other examples have ever achieved the top grade from PSA, with just seven Gem Mint examples on record at BGS. These population statistics are nearly identical to the nearly identically designed 1996 Finest Kobe Bryant Refractor rookie card, which has seen PSA 10 prices reach multiple thousands of dollars. This is unquestionably one of The Captain's most appealing and memorable cards from his unforgettable Rookie of the Year campaign of 1996, and it is a card with legitimate long-term investment potential. Although Jeter's cards are not quite as hot as they once were during his playing days, his better rookies like this are trending upwards, and they will be virtually untouchable in 2020 when he enters the Hall of Fame as the most productive and accomplished short stop since Honus Wagner was inducted in Coopertown's inaugural class.
