The most challenging part of about completing a player's PSA Master Set is finding all of the oddball, offbeat, and ephemeral items produced during a player's career. Tattoo cards are among the most difficult to locate of all, especially in top condition. They were never intended to be kept as collectibles; they were meant to be used on arms, legs, best friends, little brothers, etc. Topps's 1971 Tattoos were packaged with a stick of gum and a single 3 1/2 x 14 1/4" folded sheet, which contained a plethora of perforated tattoos. (See a video of a pack being opened here.) The offered item, a three-tattoo panel highlighted by a tattoo of Roberto Clemente, is available here in solid PSA 8 NM-MT condition, one of only four graded as such with just a single example scoring higher. Clemente, of course, is a hero to all of today's Latin American baseball players, and was a peerless humanitarian whose life and tragic death has served as an inspiration to millions around the globe. Fortunately for us, some kid back in 1971—perhaps a Clemente fan— decided to keep this tattoo card safe from use. One lucky PSA Set Registry owner will certainly be happy he did.
