In some regards it makes perfect sense that Mickey Mantle is one of the featured stars in the 1962 Topps Bucks set. The Mick is, after all, the post-war player whose cards outsell all others from his era. Although it is his Topps base cards that bring in most of the big dollar bids, many collectors of the Yankee hero have sought to own all of Mantle's cardboard, including more obscure regional items, hotel and restaurant promotional pieces, and somewhat lesser known Topps issues like the '62 Topps Bucks. Measuring 1 3/4" x 4 1/8"—and proportional in size to American currency—these dollar bill lookalikes were sold in one-cent packs, and separately from Topps's basic set. Extremely condition sensitive, the offered Mickey Mantle, graded NM-MT 8 by PSA, represents the highest-graded 1962 Topps Bucks specimen of the Commerce Comet in existence. A mere eight examples are its equal, a minuscule number when compared to the number of hobbyists who are mavens for all things Mantle.

No player in history has hit more home runs in World Series, or collected more RBIs in the Fall Classic than Mickey. In short, when his team needed a big hit, this man was money. For New York Yankees fans of the early 1960s, their slogan might have well as been, "In Mantle We Trust."
