One of the first five men—and one of the two pitchers—inducted into the charter class of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Christy Mathewson's greatness is the stuff of legend. The 6' 1" hurler, a nine-time 20-game winner and four-time 30-game winner for the New York Giants, was nicknamed "Big Six" after Gotham's most famous fire engine. "Mathewson was the greatest pitcher who ever lived," exclaimed Connie Mack, whose Philadelphia A's teams tangled with Matty's Giants three times in the World Series. "He had knowledge, judgment, perfect control and form. It was wonderful to watch him pitch when he wasn't pitching against you." By any measure, encompassing all eras, Mathewson is one of, if not the greatest pitcher in Major League history.

Offered here is the finest example of the New York ace's T205 Gold Border card we've ever offered here at Small Traditions. Exhibiting high-end characteristics for its PSA 6 EX-MT technical grade, this gold-bordered beauty is nearly perfectly centered and boldly colored. One of Mathewson's key cards printed during his playing career (1900-16), it is a rock solid investment for anyone looking to expand his or her sports card portfolio. Demand for high-grade cards from baseball's all-time greats is increasing with each passing year. Your chance to own this piece of hobby history is just a winning bid away.
