Acquired directly from our consignor, whose father received it on his birthday in 1972, the offered 1972 Pittbsburgh Pirates Official Scorebook has been signed by Roberto Clemente during the final months of his too-short life, and Clemente has added the very rare inscription "Happy Birthday." Both the signature and inscription have been authenticated by PSA's autograph experts and certified directly by Collectors Universe CEO, Joe Orlando, who at our request has also awarded the signature a numerical grade of NM-MT 8. Were it not for a portion of the near perfect signature that extends over a darkly printed portion of the scorebook cover, we have no doubt that the signature would have graded Mint 9 or possibly even Gem Mint 10. To our surprise, PSA also identified a second albeit illegible signature which can be seen across the 1971 Pirates World Champions banner, but it is too faded to be discerned. Fortunately, the Clemente signature and inscription have survived in perfect shape and have been authenticated by PSA's industry leading experts. It doesn't need to be your birthday to place a winning bid on this desirable Clemente piece, but it would undoubtedly make one heck of a birthday present. Full PSA/DNA LOA.
