The only example in its advanced grade, with just six copies graded higher. Offered is an exceptionally presentable upper-grade PSA 6.5 EX-MT+ example of the increasingly sought-after 1936 National Fines Pens Joe DiMaggio rookie card, one of just a half dozen different issues produced during The Yankee Clipper's rookie season of 1936. Strong NM-MT or better corners join NM-MT or better edges around a predominantly clean black and white image that appears marginally shifted to the left edge, but not so far as to ruin the effect of a predominantly equidistant set of borders. A pair of minuscule print marks in the right border and a few other pixel-sized dots scattered throughout the printed image are all we can see that hinders a significantly higher grade.

In the truest sense of what it means to be American, Joe DiMaggio was a self-made man who rose from poverty to the very pinnacle of American society. He was the son of an immigrant fisherman, and he married the most famous and celebrated woman in the world. He was regal and always well-dressed, his characteristic composure extending from the baseball diamond to his private life. He was Joe DiMaggio, the answer to the question: what is a New York Yankee? Indeed, his style and grace have continued to characterize the most successful franchise in American sporting history since his active playing days three quarters of a century ago. Often undervalued when compared to other Yankee immortals, from Ruth and Gehrig to Mantle and even Jeter, there has never been a better time to collect DiMaggio than there is today, and there may be no better card with which to start than one of the hobby's finest half-dozen extant copies of his 1936 National Chicle rookie card.
