If you were to poll the small but dedicated staff at Small Traditions, one of their favorite eras in hobby history was the late 90s to early 2000s. During this epoch in the industry, multiple companies—Topps, Upper Deck, Pinnacle, Fleer, and Pacific, to name a few—were on a constant quest to outdo their competitors, leading to an array of innovative ideas and designs that revolutionized card collecting. Two of these landmark developments converged in the 2000 SP Authentic Chirography Gold set; namely, the on-card certified autograph and extremely limited print runs. Upper Deck seriously upped the ante with the gold parallel to its basic Chirography insert set. Each of the 42 players who signed Chirography cards also lent his autograph to these gold chase cards, each limited to the player's jersey number. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax, who wore number 32 for the boys in blue, is the key figure in this set. Offered here is the only example of this card graded Gem Mint 10 by PSA. Serial numbered 04/32—equal both to the number of World Series titles won and no-hitters tossed by Koufax—it also bears a picture-perfect example of the lefty hurler's penmanship in bold, blue ink. This card is, in a word, flawless. Whether you are a long-time Koufax collector looking to expand your vintage collection with one of the most important modern Koufax masterpieces ever produced, or you are a modern card collector just now learning about the legendary lefty's legacy, this PSA 10 Koufax has your name written all over it. Well, not literally, it has Sandy's—and we can all agree that is a good thing!
