Issued in Puerto Rico in an extremely limited edition of only 1,000 factory sets, the 1994 Topps Bilingual issue is legendary among Derek Jeter and other modern baseball card collectors for its scarcity. Much like the Venezuelan and Mexican Topps cards issued in earlier decades, the cards are not only scarce, but most surviving examples are typically found with severe surface issues from having stuck to other cards in the factory set. This problem combines with centering issues and general wear from handling to make PSA 10 Gem Mint specimens scarcer than even the $90,000 PSA 10 1993 SP Foil Derek Jeter rookie card.

While not traditionally counted as a rookie card—at least according to some collectors who still follow the outdated "RC" designations in out-of-date print catalogs—the card is very clearly marked a "1994 SS Prospects" card and was issued two years prior to Derek's Rookie of the Year campaign of 1996. At Small Traditions we think that's plenty good enough for rookie card class, and most other collectors now agree. In this sense, with only nine other copies ever making the PSA 10 grade from just 33 ever submitted, the offered 1994 Topps Bilingual Derek Jeter is one of the The Captain's rarest rookie cards in existence.
