We want to share with you a saying we have at Small Traditions: When it comes to submitting top condition raw vintage material to PSA, we expect a 7 or 8, hope for a 9, and dream of a PSA 10. As they say in Disneyland, a mere 28 miles from Dodger Stadium, "a dream that you wish will come true." You can be sure the consignor, on whose behalf we submitted this Sandy Koufax postcard to PSA through our Cost-Free Grading program, was floating on cloud nine after learning of the results! We've handled quite a few oddball and rare issue Koufax items over the years—including the K-15 Koufax! Collection last spring—but this indeed may be the single finest postcard of the lefty hurler we've ever encountered. It hails from a rare 1962-65 Los Angeles Dodgers postcard set. Measuring approximately 3.5" x 5.5", each card was brilliantly inked in Plastichrome color, a trademark of Colourpicture Publishers, Inc. of Boston. Distributed by a California-based company, these postcards were sold either individually or in booklets. The perforated postcards, which are significantly rarer than their smooth-edged counterparts, were originally purchased in booklet form, and had to be separated from a smaller header card prior to mailing. The perforated edge atop these Dodger postcards is extremely susceptible to chipping and tearing, making the fact that the offered Koufax emerged in pristine condition all the more amazing.

Back in November 2017, we sold a PSA 8 example of this postcard, earning an impressive $1,174 at auction. What then is this picture-perfect PSA 10 worth, the one-and-only example out there? We honestly do not know. But what we are certain of is the fact that there are numerous collectors who would love to add this gem mint jewel to their treasured Koufax or Dodgers collection.
