Impossible 1994 Bowman's Best Blue Refractor #29 Jorge Posada RC Rookie Card PSA 10 Gem Mint Pop 1

Affectionately called Georgie, or Hip Hip Jorge, by Yankee faithful, Puerto Rican-born Jorge Rafael Villeta Posada will be forever immortalized as one of the Yankees' famous "Core Four" from the franchise's dynasty years of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Along with close friend and Captain Derek Jeter, and moundsmen Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera, Posada helped to anchor the team during the turbulent, steroid-driven, post-MLB strike years. A five-time All-Star and Silver Slugger Award recipient, his .273 lifetime average, 1065 RBI and 275 home runs might not immediately be Cooperstown-worthy when he appears on the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 2017, but they are in fact comparable to those of even Johnny Bench -- .267 / 1,376 / 389 -- and Jorge's fingers are twice as crowded with World Series rings (4) as are those of the Reds' revered backstop (2).

The definition of an anomaly -- sorry, we are two teachers at Small Traditions who choose the words for these descriptions -- the offered 1994 Bowman's Best Refractor rookie card is the one and only example ever graded PSA 10 Gem Mint. Unfortunately, what most Yankees collectors already know too well is that every single example produced displays a prominent vertical refractor line down the center of the card, making even Gem Mint 10s virtually impossible. The imperfection is so slight on the offered example, however, that the grading specialists at PSA decided to make it the one-and-only Gem Mint 10 on record from 77 submissions, compared to 26 Gem Mint 10 examples of Jeter's 1994 Blue Refractor from a comparable 110 submissions. A true treasure for any Yankees fan or advanced rookie card collector, don't expect to encounter another copy ever again. Hip Hip!...
