Recognizing the passing of the pinstripe torch, offered in this value-packed lot is one of the last cards to feature The Yankee Clipper, Joe DiMaggio, and one of the first cards to feature his center field replacement, Mickey Mantle. Both cards have been deemed authentic by PSA but have not received numerical grades due the following technical demerits. Although it appears to be in pack-fresh NM condition, the 1948 Leaf DiMaggio shows a small area of abrasion on the reverse where some of the card's black ink has worn away, easily observable in the words "Gum" and "Treats." Although the card might have still graded as high as EX with this wear, someone has added small touches of black ink to these word in an attempt to restore the card, thereby negating the possibility of it receiving a numerical grade. Nevertheless, the card is a scorcher, boasting one of the sharpest and cleanest images you will ever encounter on the issue. The 1953 Topps Mantle, however, is even more presentable, boasting what appear to be NM-MT or better features in every scrutable category. When observed under magnification, the edges appear to have natural cuts, each with very rough and jagged contours, but the card measures a millimeter shorter than PSA's requirements for minimum size and could therefore only be graded PSA Authentic. Like the '48 Leaf DiMaggio, it appears to be pack-fresh, and it is one of the cleanest '53 Topps Mantles you will ever encounter. A Leaf DiMaggio will run upwards of $3,000 in the PSA 7 NM grade, and the Mantle goes for about $15,000 in PSA 8 NM-MT, but you can add prominent, authentic examples of each to your collection for a minuscule fraction of those prices with a winning bid today. Two outstanding cards with outstanding value at one outstanding price. Happy holidays from Small Traditions!
