When it comes to PSA's ultra-competitive Mickey Mantle Master Set Registry, high grade material of the Mick is a must if you want to seriously compete. The offered 1962 Post Cereal Ad Back Panel, featuring not only Mantle but fellow Yankees slugger Roger Maris, fits that bill. Graded Near Mint 7 by PSA, it the only one of its kind, with just one example ranking higher. As seasoned Commerce Comet collectors already know, this panel was not cut from a box of breakfast cereal, but was removed as a perforated advertising insert attached in the pages of the April 13, 1962 issue of Life magazine (featuring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton on the cover). Undoubtedly, the vast majority of these magazines were read then thrown away two weeks later, and certainly most of the Mantle/Maris panels that were removed were cut into individual baseball cards of the two home run heroes. After all, they were intended to be cut out by kids! Exhibiting pristine edges, sharp corners and surfaces free of toning, we believe this uncut panel was graded quite conservatively, as it is the finest copy we have ever laid eyes upon. This is a serious investment piece for any fan of Mantle, Maris or the New York Yankees.
