Spring 2017 Major League Baseball "Set Registry Masters" Premium Auction
With his short but deceptive stature and his wild swing and his even wilder sayings, Yogi Berra was one of the biggest little oddballs in the history of baseball, and this month we are pleased to pay homage to the Hall of Famer with three different oddball cards of the oddball Yankee that rank as the single highest graded on record. Offered here is an extremely clean example of the rarely encountered 1958 Yoo-Hoo Matchbook cover featuring the legendary backstop, who won more World Series championships (10) than any other player in the history of the game. Graded PSA 6 EX-MT, this copy is by far the highest graded of the scant three examples on record with the Newport Beach grading authority, the next highest of which sits in the VG 3 category. Except for some acceptable discoloration on the left side of its unused striking strip, we cannot identify what has kept this little oddball "card" from grading significantly higher. Indeed, it appears to be about as Mint as a 60-year old matchbook could possibly look, and it may be worthy of a completely fresh re-submission to PSA.
