Long considered one of the single toughest Michael Jordan cards from the "Glory Days" decade of the 1980s to find in high grades, the featured 1987 Fleer Sticker has been graded PSA 10 Gem Mint and reports just 15 other examples on record with the Newport Beach-based grading firm from a staggering 3,275 submissions. For their part, Beckett Grading Services has reviewed 1,220 copies, awarding just five examples with the grade of Gem Mint. With so few of these Gem Mint copies hitting the market over the last decade -- only two sales this past year and none in 2012 or 2011 -- prices have swung wildly, from as low as $1,500 to as high as $3,000 and more. The card is extremely challenging to find with clean enough surfaces to merit Gem Mint consideration, and it is virtually impossible to find with accurate, square centering. The odds-defying copy offered here, however, is a slam dunk on both fronts, and it is one of the finest copies we have seen. With a notorious and well-documented reputation for condition sensitivity -- and with a print run, as Rich Mueller writes for Sports Collectors Daily, believed to be even smaller than its extremely short-printed, groudbreaking 1986-87 issue -- two decades of professional third-party grading have proven this Jordan Sticker to be one of his toughest cards, and we sincerely doubt that very many more Gems will surface over the next two decades, when its value, like the rest of Jordan's desirable 1980s issues, will have multiplied. But why wait until then when you can score this "Rare Air" today?
