Alfonso Soriano was one of the few elite prospects of the first years of the new millennium whose career ultimately lived up to his early hype. (Anyone else remember the big money paid out for cards of Corey Patterson, Sean Burroughs, and Barry Zito?) In his 16 seasons in the majors, Soriano collected 2,095 hits and smacked 412 homers, and gave the Yankees premium power at the second base position in the early 2000s. Offered here is Dominican Republic native's 1999 Upper Deck Ultimate Victory Parallel 100 card, graded Gem Mint 9.5 by BGS. Serial numbered 047/100, it is an extremely limited chase card for its time. Soriano is one of just four MLB players to ever reach the 40-40 club, joining Jose Canseco, Alex Rodriguez, and Barry Bonds in 2006. Notably, he is the only member of this exclusive club not linked to PEDs. It is a long shot, but down the road, it would not be undeserving if Soriano was elected to the Hall of Fame. If so, Cooperstown collectors will come searching for rookie cards like the sparkling gem mint offering here.
