Spring 2017 Major League Baseball "Set Registry Masters" Premium Auction
Whereas Reggie Jackson was the best player on the World Series champion Yankees teams of the late 1970s, Thurman Munson was the squad's heart and soul. The emotive catcher was a fan favorite in the Big Apple, as much for his clutch bat as for his hard-nosed style of play. New Yorkers and the nation mourned when the great backstop was killed when he crashed his plane on August 2, 1979. Although his Cooperstown-bound career was cut short with his life, his place in Yankee lore is secure, and he remains to this day one of the most popular players ever to don the pinstripes.
Offered here is a 1970 New York Yankees Clinic Schedule rookie Postcard of the Yankee captain. One of a mere five cards from Munson's American League Rookie of the Year Award winning 1970 season, this postcard was given as a bonus to youngsters who attended a baseball clinic prior to selected home games at Yankee Stadium. Fortunately the original recipient of this colorful keepsake kept it in pristine shape, as this perfect postcard has earned a Gem Mint 10 mark from PSA, one of just three specimens in this grade. This is the first such example up for sale in five years, so enter your bid today.
