Reggie Jackson's 1969 Topps #260 rookie card is one of those iconic pieces of cardboard that is a necessity for any serious postwar collection. Although known above all for his heroics in the Yankees' 1977 World Series Game 6 clincher—when he hit three consecutive home runs off three consecutive pitches from three different pitchers—Jackson compiled the bulk of his Hall of Fame stats as a member of the Oakland Athletics. In fact, he won more championships with the A's than with the Yanks (three to two) and captured his only American League MVP award while wearing the green and gold with his stellar performance in the 1973 season. No moment was too big for the man dubbed "Mr. October." Writer Bob Marshall equated the laws governing Jackson to a scientific principle, declaring that, "Just as nature fills a vacuum, Reggie fills a spotlight."

Offered here is a high-end PSA 8.5 NM-MT+ example of the great slugger's aforementioned '69 Topps rookie. Connoisseurs of this card will immediately notice one quality, above all others: it is impeccably centered. "This is a deceptively tough card," notes Collectors Universe CEO Joe Orlando, "You can find (this card) sharp but not always on the mark." This example, however, is on the mark, and looks every bit a Mint 9, and certainly could not have missed that grade by much. Four well-formed, sharp corners, virtually chip-free edges—including on the pink-colored back—and clean surfaces all contribute to the card's exceptional evaluation. Reggie is one of the all-time great postseason performers. If you are looking for a championship-caliber rookie card of one of the most clutch players in baseball history, this PSA 8.5 specimen is one of the finest in the entire hobby.
