With a reported print run of 200,000 of each picture produced, you'd expect to encounter the popular 1962 Union Oil Dodgers Premium Pictures more often, but exhaustive searches on eBay and elsewhere on the internet come up nearly empty. Perhaps the reason is because the famed sports artist, Nicholas Volpe, created such endearing images of the celebrated west coast team that the vast majority ended up being taped or pinned to bedroom walls and school lockers. The 8-1/2 by 11 inch premiums feature a large color pastel portrait set against a black background and accented by a smaller action picture. Backs are printed in black and white and feature a career summary and complete minor and major league stats. They are essentially giant baseball cards, which makes them perfect candidates for PSA's new jumbo holder. Since its introduction to the hobby last year, however, the offered 1962 Union Oil Sandy Koufax remains the only example yet to be graded. As such, it will provide a powerful statistical boost to your Koufax Master Set Registry due to the addition of two bonus points for its Pop 1 highest graded status.
