Another iconic, key rookie card of one of the sporting world's G.O.A.T (greatest of all-time) athletes, offered here is an exceptionally high-end example of the 1960 Hemmets Journal Cassius Clay rookie card, recently graded NM-MT 8 by PSA, and ranking as one of just ten copies in its advanced class and one of this finest 16 copies on record. Coincidentally, similar to the previous lot's 1958 Alifaboliget Pele rookie card, the Hemmets Journal Cassius Clay rookie card is also a Swedish issue, and it is also considered the definitive rookie card of the boxing legend and cultural icon immortalized as Muhammad Ali.

Undeniably gem mint corners join gem mint edges around a perfectly centered image of the then 18-year old Light Heavyweight Gold Medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympic Games. In fact, everything about the offered card appears to be in perfect, pristine condition, except for its enamel-like printed front surface, which shows a few hardly perceptible undulations in its glossy surface. To be clear, there is no kink or dent or other impression or imperfection in its condition sensitive surface, only a subtle wave that appears to have de-merited the offering from Gem Mint 10 status to NM-MT 8.

Importantly, the dark colored blotch in the upper-left quadrant of the card is a print defect that appears on every copy produced. Even the hobby's lone PSA 10 example, which fetched $90,000 at auction last year, bears the same mark. Almost just as common as this tolerable blemish, however, is a series of horizontal striations that appear on almost every example we've ever admired. These striations appear as thin scratches in the susceptible surface that typically limit otherwise perfect-looking examples to the grade of EX-MT 6. The offered example, however, is devoid of these marks, and it should consequently be considered extremely, even unusually high-end.

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
