It is appropriate that the background color of Stan Musial's 1949 Bowman #24 card is royal blue, as "Stan the Man" is baseball royalty. The son of blue collar Eastern European immigrants, the Western Pennsylvania-born Musial was a natural athlete who was playing minor league ball while still in high school. Making his big league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals at age 20, Musial would play all 22 years of his major league career with the Redbirds, establishing himself as one of the elite players in baseball history in the process. In addition to racking up three National League MVP Awards, Stan collected an incredible 3,630 hits, ranking second only to Ty Cobb upon his retirement. In addition to being a tremendous player, Musial was equally renowned for being one of the good guys of the game. “He will always be Mr. Baseball. You can go around the world and you’ll never find a better human being than Stan Musial," said Whitey Herzog, a contemporary of Stan's on the field and later the manager of the Cardinals (1980-90).

Offered here is a gorgeous example of Stan the Man's aforementioned '49 Bowman card. Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA, it perfectly captures a young Musial in his lefty batting stance, looking intensely at the pitch he is about to swat. And with its on-point centering, four well-formed corners, and crisp image registration, it is one even the most picky hobbyist would be happy to welcome into his collection. Stan is one of the most widely collected and beloved players of his generation. You can be sure competition will be fierce for this high-grade Musial masterpiece, so get your bids in now.
